Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has used the 3-4-3 formation in our first two Champions League games but after switching to 4-2-3-1 in the second half against Lille, I expect him to use the 4-2-3-1 from the start against Ajax.
Here’s my predicted lineup:
GK: Kepa Arrizabalaga – He definitely has to start in goal.
CB: Kurt Zouma – The France international is expected to start against Ajax. Zouma had a shaky start to the season but he has improved since then.
CB: Fikayo Tomori – The young centre-back has impressed for the Blues this season but he needs to keep his concentration levels high for 90mins to avoid the mistakes he made late in the game against Lille.
RB: Cesar Azpilicueta – I have been impressed by the performances of the Spaniard lately. He didn’t start the season well but has since improved.
LB: Marcos Alonso – Emerson Palmieri is Lampard’s first choice at left-back but Alonso deserves to keep his place in the starting XI after impressing in Emerson’s absence.
CM: Jorginho – I can’t remember the Italian international having a bad game for Chelsea this season.
CM: Mateo Kovacic – The Croatian is expected to start against Ajax with N’Golo Kante out injured.
CAM: Mason Mount – He didn’t make much of an impact against Newcastle over the weekend but I still expect him to start because he has been brilliant for us this season.
RW: Willian – The Brazilian international has been one of Chelsea’s best players this season.
LW: Callum Hudson-Odoi – He has been brilliant for the Blues since his return from injury.
CF: Tammy Abraham – He has made the centre-forward position his own this season.
