Christian Pulisic and Michy Batshuayi might be struggling for game time at Chelsea, but the duo have shown that they can perfectly play together and have a good understanding on the pitch.
Batshuayi and Pulisic combined for Chelsea’s fourth goal in the 4-1 win over Southampton early this month after they both came in as subs and the pass from Pulisic for Batshuayi to score was awesome. They did it again against Ajax on Wednesday night in what was a big win for the Blues.
Pulisic provided the assist for Batshuayi’s winner in Chelsea’s 1-0 Champions League victory over Ajax.
Pulisic played with Batshuayi during their time at Borussia Dortmund when Batshuayi spent six months on loan, and the American has revealed that he has since found it easy to play with the Belgian.
“Michy is easy to play with,” Pulisic of the matchwinner, a former team-mate of his at Borussia Dortmund.
“We played together for a while so we have a nice connection. It’s crazy we could help with the goal; it was a great finish from Michy.”
In his press conference after the game, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard hailed the performance of the duo and admitted it has been tough leaving them out.
The Chelsea manager said: “Sometimes the toughest part of management is leaving out players that really want to play week-in, week-out. You rely on them being positive and coming on to make an impact. Both Michy and Christian [Pulisic] did that so I’m delighted for them both and delighted for the whole squad because it’s great for team spirit when subs come on and make a difference like that.”
