Christian Pulisic’s struggling days are over and his hat-trick against Burnley is a testament to just how far the American has come.
After his £58m move to Stamford Bridge, Pulisic failed to impress and was relegated to a bench role as Chelsea boss Frank Lampard preferred Willian, Pedro and Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Lampard urged Pulisic to improve and he didn’t start a Premier League game since the end of August. But, the American has now picked back form and has been brilliant in the last three games for Chelsea.
His game changing substitute appearances against Newcastle and Ajax earned him a starting spot in the starting lineup to face Burnley on Saturday evening, and Pulisic bagged a hat-trick in that game.
Arsenal legend Martin Keown has now hailed the transformation of Pulisic and believes it’s a part of Lampard’s success secret.
He said on Match of the Day: “It’s another Lampard success story. He’s been sat on the bench and this was his first start in six matches and boy did he take that opportunity today, bursting onto the scene with the perfect hat-trick.
“It’s not an easy thing keeping everyone happy but when they come on and show you they’re happy with their performance… he really was outstanding today.
“His all-round play is just a delight. He wants to make things happen and he’s got good movement around him, we know that, but he’s got one thing on his mind: ‘I want to put this in the back of the net, I’m catching up for lost time’. And boy is he off and running.”
