Chelsea right-back Davide Zappacosta, currently on loan at Roma, has suffered a serious knee injury.
According to Roma, Zappacosta damaged his knee ligaments during training on Friday.
Zappacosta’s loan from Stamford Bridge originally only runs for six months, as Chelsea wanted the option to bring him back as an emergency if possible in the January transfer window due to the transfer ban, and Roma were given the option to extend his loan until the end of the season if necessary.
Zappacosta is expected to be out until February, meaning Roma might not even need him anymore and are considering terminating his contract.
Since joining Roma on loan, Zappacosta only managed just 12 minutes of football, and he didn’t play any for Chelsea before his loan move to the Italian capital.
The Italy international recently signed a new Chelsea contract until 2022.
