Chelsea are currently flying high in the league and the Blues have overcome a lethargic start to the season to climb up to fourth place, level on points with Leicester City in third and two points behind second placed Manchester City.
FiveThirtyEight’s computer algorithm now predicts Chelsea will most likely end the season as third.
According to their data, the likelihood of Chelsea finishing third is 36%, with the Blues tipped to finish the season ahead of in-form Leicester City. Chelsea are also expected to make it to the top 4 with a 68% probability.
The Blues are one of the few teams who still have chances to actually win the title, according to the algorithm, albeit the probability of such an outcome is only 2% which is still more than the other top six sides bar Liverpool and Manchester City.
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard admitted last week that he isn’t getting carried away by Chelsea’s current form and top four status.
He said: “You get asked for your aims, we know we want to be challenging in the top four, and from a slightly difficult start it is a good sign that we are moving in the right direction.
“In all senses. Performance, results. All that must do is be an incentive for us.
“Football can change in an instant. Our arrival into the top four must only give us the hunger to stay there and move on.”
