Italian side Inter Milan are reportedly interested in a January move for Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud following the injury to Alexis Sanchez.
According to Calciomercato, Inter Milan’s chances of signing Giroud in January has significantly reduced.
Inter Milan were reportedly confident of signing Giroud in January as he is in the final year of his Chelsea contract but Chelsea are reportedly not in a hurry to sell the France international as the Blues can unilaterally extend Giroud’s contract for another 12 months.
Giroud is reportedly eager to leave Chelsea for Inter Milan in January following his limited game time for the Blues this season but he might have difficulties in persuading the club to let him leave in January.
Despite his lack of game time at Chelsea, it is believed the Blues aren’t keen on letting him leave with the club having the right to extend his contract for another year. Chelsea’s inability to sign players due to the transfer ban by FIFA will also affect Giroud’s chances of leaving in January.
Speaking about his situation at the club, Giroud recently said: “I’m going to fight for my place at Chelsea and we will take stock of the situation in January.
“If you ask me whether I want to leave I’ll say ‘not necessarily’ – but other things enter the equation.
“I cannot be happy with what I have at the moment. I am 33 but I still have several good years left in me.
“I still have the legs and a profile that I think will enable me to keep playing at the top level. I feel in good shape physically and I lead a healthy lifestyle. I want to enjoy myself and play matches.
“That could be for Chelsea – who are my first choice – or elsewhere. But if they force me to make a decision I will do it – just like when I left Arsenal.”
Giroud has started just one Premier League game this season.
