Christian Pulisic replaced Callum Hudson-Odoi in the Chelsea starting XI against Burnley on Saturday, with the American scoring a hat-trick to help Chelsea beat Burnley 4-2.

Former Chelsea defender Frank Sinclair has revealed why Pulisic started ahead of Hudson-Odoi.

According to Sinclair, Hudson-Odoi was given a “well-earned” rest by Frank Lampard after starting Chelsea’s last three games.

“No it’s understandable,” Sinclair said on Sky Sports.

“I think Hudson-Odoi’s played a lot of football recently after coming back from a long-term injury, so they’re going to take care of him.

“He’s going to be dipped in and out of the team because he’s still a young lad as well but great promise that he’s got.

“Obviously Pulisic comes on during the week and really affects the game, so I think that would have convinced Frank that it’s possible to start him today and give Callum a well-earned rest.”
