Chelsea’s defence has been Frank Lampard’s undoing this season as the Blues have played very well in most games this term but only fell short in defence.
While Lampard’s side has been firing it up in the attack, the Blues seem to be struggling in defence. Chelsea tend to concede a lot of goals from set-pieces this season and Lampard’s side has already conceded 13 goals in 7 league games and kept just one clean sheet. For a big side, it’s a poor record.
Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma has revealed that work is ongoing to shore up the defence and that the players also have to believe in themselves.
Zouma said: “We are working harder [on that]. There is a lot of communication between us. We are conceding goals from set-pieces due to little details I would say, so we need to be more focused on details. We need to keep believing in ourselves and everything will be alright.”
Former Chelsea defender Frank Sinclair has revealed that Chelsea’s main weakness this season is defending set-pieces.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has opted to use the zonal marking system when defending set-pieces and Sinclair insists he isn’t a fan of zonal marking.
Taking to Twitter, Sinclair said: “Achilles heel for Chelsea this season from set pieces, very small side and I don’t like zonal marking at the best of times.”
