Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag was full of confidence ahead of Chelsea’s game with Ajax at the Johan Cruyff ArenA, and the Ajax manager was so sure that his side were going to carry the day.
The Ajax boss told Kicker before the game at Ajax: “We have self-confidence and developed a playing style with which can cause problems for any opponent.
“We aren’t afraid of any team and can beat Chelsea. But for that we need on Wednesday is a top performance.”
Chelsea took all three points away at Ajax, and ahead of the game at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night, the Ajax boss is less arrogant.
Ten Hag has now admitted that he’s looking forward to a tough game and that he respects Chelsea.
Ten Hag said in his press conference: “There are threats but I’m not a manager who thinks about that. I have a lot of respect for Chelsea but I also trust my players. When they play as a team for 90 minutes we have a chance to win. We will go for it.”
Asked what he learnt from the first game against Chelsea, the Ajax boss responded: “We have to be better on the ball.”
