Ajax never deserved 4-1 lead against Chelsea and should be happy to leave Stamford Bridge with a 4-4 result

For all of Ajax’s flair and creativity on the ball against Chelsea in the first half at Stamford Bridge, the Dutch champions were flattered to lead 3-1 at half and 4-1 early in the second half.

I have read several comments from opposition fans claiming Chelsea were lucky to get a point against Ajax but the team that was lucky here was Ajax.

Ajax scored three goals in the first half against Chelsea despite having just one shot on goal. That is pure luck. Ajax first and third goals against Chelsea were own goals.

Ajax passed the ball better than Chelsea in the first half but they weren’t really threatening. Chelsea had more shots on target (2) than Ajax (1) in the first half.

Chelsea started the second half brilliantly and pushed Ajax back only to concede the fourth goal to Ajax out of the run of play.

Chelsea were the better team all through the second half and created lots of chances to beat the Dutch champions.

In fact, before the red cards Ajax received in the second half, they only had two shots on target the whole game with the Blues having more shots on target (8).

Dusan Tadic criticism of the referee is also surprising as both incidents were yellow cards.

I loved Ajax courage to still attack even after the red cards but the team lucky to leave Stamford Bridge with a point is Ajax and not Chelsea.
