Marcos Alonso was one of the best players in our title winning season under Antonio Conte but his best performances for Chelsea have been as a left wing-back and not a left-back.

Alonso’s performance against Ajax was his worst display in a Chelsea shirt since he arrived from Fiorentina in 2016 and that might just be the game that decides his future at Stamford Bridge.

Against Ajax, he conceded needless free-kicks and was also terrible in attack. Lampard was left with no choice but to replace him with Reece James at halftime.

Alonso lost the ball twice due to heavy first touches against Ajax and gave away possession from six of his 21 passes while committing three fouls.

Lampard has been linked with Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell and it’s easy to see why.
