Chelsea star Willian has been a longterm target for Spanish champions Barcelona. The La Liga club made several moves for the 31-year-old before, including a £50million bid in 2018, but had their advances rejected on each occasion.
Willian’s Chelsea contract expires at the end of the current season and the Brazilian is yet to reach an agreement with Chelsea.
Willian wants a two-year contract from Chelsea but the Blues are only willing to offer the Brazilian a one year deal due to the club’s policy of offering players over 30 a one year deal.
According to Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are planning a swoop for Willian when his contract expires at the end of the season.
With Chelsea reluctant to offer Willian a two year contract, Barcelona will be free to discuss terms with Willian in January over a free transfer next summer.
The Spanish club are reportedly willing to offer Willian the length of contract he desires.
On Barcelona’s longstanding interest in him, Willian recently said: “The only real official offer I had came from Barcelona, last year, after the World Cup.
“Barcelona indeed presented an offer to Chelsea but it was rejected.
“That was the only actual time I had to discuss something like this with my family, although we really love it here [London]. So there were several factors that helped us in staying.”
