As it stands, Tottenham are 14th in the league and 11 points behind 4th-placed Manchester City. This led to the sack of Mauricio Pochettino as Tottenham manager with former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho appointed as the club’s new boss.

Mourinho has an uphill task of pushing Spurs up the table and Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has revealed that Spurs have the quality to fight for a Champions League spot.

Lampard said: “It will be tough [for the other teams] because they have quality players and a quality manager and they have all the structure there, the training ground, the stadium, all those things, without a doubt they are in the top-four race.

“The quality through their team is why they have been there in the last three or four years, it is why they reached the Champions League final.

“You look at their players throughout the squad, the strength in depth. You look at the individuals they have, particularly in forward areas. Anyone with Harry Kane and players like that in their team are going to be a threat. I knew that before and I know that know.”

Meanwhile, Mourinho has vowed that he’d try to lead Tottenham to the title next season.

The new Tottenham boss said: “We can’t win the Premier League this season,” Mourinho said. “Next season, I’m not saying we will win it, but we can win it.”
