Chelsea were knocked out of the Carabao Cup fourth round as the Blues were beaten by Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
Chelsea were unfortunate to have lost the game after conceding two goals from set pieces – a penalty and a free-kick.
It was a stunning defeat to take for the Blues who were the better side at the Bridge, and skipper Cesar Azpilicueta has hailed his teammates for a job well done.
He posted on his twitter page: “Deserved more after yesterday’s effort, but we have big challenges ahead and we need to stick together and work hard! Thanks for your support.”
Chelsea may have lost 2-1 to the Red Devils on Wednesday night but Chelsea youngster Billy Gilmour impressed for the Blues.
According to Gilmour insists Marcus Rashford’s brilliant free-kick was the difference between both teams on Wednesday night as he believes Chelsea looked even more dominant.
Gilmour told Chelsea’s official website: “I learned a lot, it was a massive step for me, and for Marc [Guehi] as well.
“It was a totally different match to Grimsby. Coming into this game we had to be on it, and we thought we played okay.
“I was hoping for a win which we didn’t get, which is gutting. Second half we were a totally different team. We changed formation in midfield with a two and a one, I was the one and had a bit more freedom to try and get on the ball.
“We looked more dominant on the front foot, we played very well and then just a great free-kick separated the two teams.”
