Chelsea are huge underdogs heading to this massive tie against Manchester City, and despite the form of the Blues, the bookmakers don’t think Frank Lampard’s side stands a chance away at the Etihad Stadium.
Football pundit Paul Merson has given his analysis on this highly anticipated fixture, and while he thinks City have what it takes to score five past any defence, he also believes that Chelsea’s attack can hurt any team on their day.
He told Star Sport: “Manchester City against Chelsea is a huge game this weekend. It is one City simply cannot afford to lose.
“But I believe every game is like that for them now in the Premier League. They are nine points behind Liverpool which is probably too many already.
“But if they draw here and Liverpool beat Crystal Palace then it is 11. City can’t afford any draws really which should make them very entertaining to watch.
“If they’re level in any game with 20 minutes to go, they will have to thrown more forwards on and go for it. That’s not a bad way to watch football for the neutral.
“It will be interesting to see what way Chelsea boss Frank Lampard approaches the game. City are good enough to stick four or five past any team in the world.
“So Chelsea won’t want to open up the game too much and let Pep Guardiola’s side get into their stride because they can really hurt you.
“But they are not very good at the back, either. And Chelsea’s best weapons are in their forward line.
“So the Blues could hurt City too which means this is set up to be a great game.”
