When Eden Hazard was at the club, the Chelsea winger was the team’s penalty taker, and the former Chelsea star was so good at penalties.
Since his departure, Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has become the regular penalty taker for Chelsea, and he has been converting them with relative ease.
During playing time, Jorginho has only ever missed one penalty during his playing career for both club and country. It was back in late November in 2017 when Udinese shot-stopper Simone Scuffet denied him just after the half-hour mark, although the Brazilian-born Italian reacted quick enough to convert the rebound and send it back into the net.
Jorginho has a hop, skip and shoot penalty technique that makes goalkeepers struggle to predict the direction, thanks to his last-second shimmy.
Chelsea legend Pat Nevin has hailed Jorginho’s style of taking penalties and has revealed that the Italy international is even a better penalty taker than Eden Hazard.
Nevin said: “I did some analysis for the BBC website a month ago on the changing style of penalty kicks. I also obviously mentioned it on The 5th Stand too. I made clear then that I thought the Jorginho penalty style is maybe the best in the game today, even better than Eden Hazard’s genius method, and that is saying something.”
