Five Chelsea players were called up to England’s squad for the upcoming international games, but Ross Barkley has pulled out due to injury.
England play Montenegro at Wembley on Thursday before travelling to Kosovo on Sunday, and England boss Gareth Southgate has opted not to bring anyone into his squad to replace Chelsea midfielder Barkley (ankle), who has missed Chelsea’s last six matches.
Ross Barkley limped off against Newcastle in the Premier League fixture against the Magpies on October 19th and hasn’t featured since that game. Barkley is still struggling with his ankle injury and has already missed 6 latest Chelsea games.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard had doubts over Barkley’s England selection as he wasn’t part of the Chelsea squad to face Crystal Palace.
“Ross has got an ongoing issue so he’s not in the squad tomorrow,” reported Lampard in his press conference ahead of Palace clash.
“It’s a conversation I’ll have with Gareth [Southgate], Steve [Holland], Ross and everyone to see how it pans out for him over the next 10 days. I’m not sure on that one but he won’t be in our squad.”
