The Blues moved up to third on the table after the 2-1 victory over Watford on Saturday at Vicarage Road.
Many pundits predicted before the start of the season that Chelsea will finish outside the top four following the loss of Eden Hazard to Real Madrid.
Former Arsenal striker Alan Smith admits he has been impressed by Chelsea under Frank Lampard and he believes the Blues will finish in the top four this season.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Smith said: “I was very impressed (with Chelsea). If anybody had asked me, I would have given [Mateo] Kovacic man of the match, he looks a different player to last year. They’re looking a real force.”
When asked if Chelsea would finish in the top four and play Champions League football next season, Smith added: “I think so, when you look at the table and the form they’re in.
“They’ve got good options in different areas of the pitch. [Olivier] Giroud is third choice up top, and that is strength in depth.”
