Chelsea and Manchester United are trying to integrate youngsters from their academy into the first team.
Frank Lampard’s side boasts of the likes of Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, Fikayo Tomori, Reece James and Callum Hudson-Odoi who are all making the headlines every other week, while United have youngsters like Mason Greenwood, Tahith Chong, Brandon Williams, Angel Gomes and James Garner in their squad.
Manchester United’s class of 92 is still being talked about till date, and former Chelsea star Joe Cole believes that the Blues young crop are the closest to that Manchester United’s buzzing squad that had the likes of David Beckham, Gary Neville, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs.
Joe Cole has admitted that Manchester United current youngsters can’t be compared with Chelsea.
“I don’t think you’ll ever get the perfect storm which happened when Fergie brought through all the young players through at Manchester United,” Cole told BT Sport.
“They were all local lads and then they went on to win things, there are a mix and a blend to have for that and I think Chelsea are the closest club to achieving it.
“The players coming through at Manchester United are good players but I don’t see any Callum Hudson-Odois, no Mason Mounts but they are good players. Credit Manchester United for developing them.”
