France boss Didier Deschamps has revealed Olivier Giroud is appreciated more at the France national team than at Chelsea.
Giroud has struggled to get game time this season at Chelsea with Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi ahead of him in pecking order.
Giroud scored the winner as France beat Moldova 2-1 on Thursday night.
“Indispensable or not, because of his qualities, he is very important to us,” Deschamps said of Giroud.
“His goal did not ensure that we qualified for the European Championships. But it did ensure that we were first in the group again.
“What he doesn’t have with Chelsea, he does with us. He stays in the first XI.
“He is not a player who knocks on the door until yesterday or today, he has been performing at a high level for a long time. He has known periods in which he scored fewer goals, but then he helps other players and gives them the opportunity to score.”
