Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta revealed after the 2-2 draw against Valencia that Chelsea failed to manage the game well.
Azpilicueta said: “We didn’t manage [the game] well. We had a good reaction to the first goal but when we were 2-1 up we should have created more danger, more chances.
“Valencia are a good team, they have quality, and they pushed to the end because they wanted to qualify as well.
“It was a good game. Both teams wanted to win, they had chances, there was a penalty, VAR – everything.
“We’d prefer to have the three points but we have qualification in our hands against Lille at home.”
According to former Chelsea boss Glenn Hoddle, Azpilicueta’s comments made him laugh because the defender was also guilty of failing to manage the game.
“It was incredible, absolutely incredible. For the neutral it must’ve been an amazing game,” Hoddle said.
“As a coach there’s so many things you can pick at. The entertainment value was up there with any game I’ve seen in the Champions League.
“The chances that were missed by both sides! Just amazing.
“It made me laugh there… Azpilicueta said ‘we didn’t manage the game very well’ – in the 96th minute, he’s the right sided centre-back of a back-five and he’s overlapping Reece James! I don’t get it sometimes!”
