While Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud was handed a France call-up despite his lack of Chelsea game time, Manchester United forward Anthony Martial was snubbed by France boss Didier Deschamps despite his form for United.
Explaining Giroud inclusion, Deschamps said: “Maybe that means something but it’s mostly what happened on the pitch that means something.
“If he is the one I used the most, do not forget either the ratio of matches and goals.
“There are not many in front of him in terms of goals in the history of the France team. He did the right thing, he answered the trust.”
Explaining Martial snub, Deschamps added: “He was part of the French team on a regular basis, but recently he was often injured.
“He came back not so long ago and it’s going well in his role as a central striker with Manchester United. For a long time he’s been part of the players likely to be called up.”
According to Italian media outlet Gazzetta dello Sport via Sport Witness, Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte is seriously considering signing Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud.
Conte signed Giroud from Arsenal during his time as Chelsea boss and the report claims Inter Milan are seriously considering signing the France international since he has been previously managed by Conte.
Giroud is keen on leaving Chelsea in January after failing to get enough game time at the club this season under Frank Lampard.
