Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger resumed training following his lengthy injury layoff and trained with the rest of the squad this morning at Cobham ahead of our important Champions League game against Valencia on Wednesday.

Rudiger last played for Chelsea in mid-September at Wolves when he was forced off at half-time and hasn’t featured since then.

The German has since recovered from the knee injury he suffered last season which kept him out of action during pre-season, but sustained another injury at half-time of Chelsea’s 5-2 win away to Wolves when slipping on a metal sheet as he ran towards the tunnel.

Rudiger underwent surgery near the start of this month on a pelvic problem, and is now close to a Chelsea return.

Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has named Rudiger as the player who Chelsea have missed badly this season.

According to Cascarino, the Blues have missed German international Antonio Rudiger this season.

“I think there’s a lot of learning to be done with Tomori and Zouma,” Cascarino told talkSPORT.

“They’re a partnership that Frank trusts, but there are mistakes there too regularly.

“They’re both young men in the early part of their career, but big clubs don’t allow you to go through this period of indifference.

“They miss Rudiger enormously, because he is their best natural defender.”
