Chelsea have been short in midfield as Frank Lampard has been left with only Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho for the last couple of games.
N’Golo Kante has been out of action for over a month now and has had limited playing time since the start of the season due to an injury he has been suffering since the end of last season.
Ross Barkley limped off against Newcastle in the first game after the October international break on October 19th and hasn’t featured since that game.
Ahead of the Ajax game, Lampard has now revealed that the midfield duo of Kante and Barkley have resumed training.
Frank Lampard had said in the build-up to the Watford game that Kante was ‘close’ to returning to full fitness and would ‘possibly be ready for Ajax’.
Barkley as well has returned to training, and Lampard is happy with the performance of the returning players.
Lampard said: “I’m quite big that the players come back into training at the level that they left so they’re then ready to play games, because they can’t just walk straight back in after injuries. There has to be some progression.”
