Brescia youngster Sandro Tonali has been likened to Chelsea ace Jorginho. The young midfielder is beginning to impress in the Serie A, and got an opportunity after being called up to the Italian national team.
The 19-year-old was given his first start in the Azzurri jersey as Italy defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina 3-0 in a Euro 2020 qualifying victory away from home.
Tonali has now admitted that he fancies himself as a Jorginho type of midfielder.
“I am happy with how we all played. I’m glad that I got through the emotion of my first Italy start and am enjoying all of it,” Tonali told Rai Sport after the game.
“This can also be my role. I am more of a Jorginho at club level, let’s say, but it’s not that different, so I have no real problems playing wider in a midfield three.
“I’ll give my all every week for the club, then the decisions the coach makes are up to him. I’m there and will give my best.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic has admitted that he didn’t know Chelsea’s Italy international Jorginho was this good.
“I watched Jorginho when he was at Napoli, when we played against each other, but I think now he is getting even better,” the Croatian told the official Chelsea website.
“He is a great player. I didn’t know he was so good, but when you train with him you see it. I’m enjoying it, I think he is as well, and we need to keep working on that.”
