Jorginho has been one of the key men in Frank Lampard’s Chelsea revival. The 28-year-old has been a driver in the middle of the park for Chelsea, and even the Chelsea fans now adore him.

The Italy international has been made the team’s vice-captain, and he has now revealed how it feels to be vice-captain of Chelsea.

“I’m really enjoying it,” he said. “I feel I’m able to take on this new sort of responsibility and really help my team-mates. That’s something new for me in my career, but it’s not something that’s changed for me as a person.

“I don’t think it’s anything I’ve changed, it’s always been like that for me on the pitch and perhaps people are noticing it more, but for me it’s always been that way. When I’m out there I always want to help my team-mates.”

Explaining why Lampard chose Jorginho as vice-captain, the Chelsea manager said: “Jorginho is a character, a driver and that is very evident to see on the pitch.

“He wants to win, I know that should be the basics for everyone but to show it in everything you do is important and I think he does that.

“From pre-season, he’s been one of the leaders in the dressing room and on the pitch.

“I’m pleased with him and the young players need to look up to that kind of attitude that he has daily.”
