Chelsea midfielder Jorginho is having an excellent season, and the Italian international is now a cult hero at Stamford Bridge as the club fans appreciate how much he has progressed under Frank Lampard.
In an interview with the 5th Stand, Chelsea’s official app, Jorginho has revealed the nickname he was called while playing football on the streets as a child.
Jorginho has revealed that his friends used to call him Haginho, likening him to Romanian star Gheorghe Hagi when playing football in his childhood.
“Don’t laugh, but I used to be called ‘Haginho’ by my friends when I was younger!” Jorginho told The 5th Stand app.
Jorginho has been spectacular in midfield under Frank Lampard, and fellow midfielder Mateo Kovacic has admitted that he didn’t know the Italy international was this good.
“I watched Jorginho when he was at Napoli, when we played against each other, but I think now he is getting even better,” the Croatian told the official Chelsea website.
“He is a great player. I didn’t know he was so good, but when you train with him you see it. I’m enjoying it, I think he is as well, and we need to keep working on that.”
