Ross Barkley has now been involved in two off field incidents this season that could put a dent to his perceived professionalism as the Chelsea midfielder was pictured topless in a Dubai nightclub during the international break.
It isn’t the first time Barkley is having an off field incident that could bring question marks about his professionalism. Back in September, Barkley had an incident with a taxi driver where the 25-year-old had to be escorted to a cash machine by two policemen to withdraw money to pay a taxi driver after a late night row over spilled chips.
It was reported that Lampard could take actions to discipline the 25-year-old, but while Lampard has frowned at his actions, the Chelsea boss discipline Barkley but has urged him to work his way back into the team.
The Chelsea manager said in his press conference: “There are two separate issues. One is the headlines this week. Ross knows how I felt about the first headline. I backed him then, and I still back him now.
“He showed a moment of a lack of professionalism as far as I’m concerned. I don’t want to be a pure dictator and come down hard, because I understand all my players are humans and have lives. It’s not a terrible thing he’s done.
“All Ross needs to do now, he’s had an injury which he is still kind of carrying, he has to work his way back in. He has to train well and I certainly don’t hold anything against my players. I like Ross, and I think it is something where he needs to show all his reactions on the pitch.”
