Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek has been out since May this year, as the 23-year-old suffered an achille tendon injury just before the Europa League final with Arsenal towards the end of last season.
The Chelsea academy product has teamed up with Burberry to become a fashion model – with former France president Nicolas Sarkozy’s wife Carla Bruni sitting on his knee during the shoot.
The Chelsea star has used his down-time during injury to pose for Burberry’s Christmas fashion line.
In an interview with GQ Magazine, Loftus-Cheek talked about his injury – and what modelling for Burberry meant to him as he was away from football.
Loftus-Cheek told GQ: “It was amazing to work with Burberry; a British brand with the best quality of clothing and style.
“The first word that comes to mind when I think of Burberry is ‘class’. So to be involved with such a brand is great.
“I have never actually thought about working with a fashion brand before Burberry approached me. I have only worked with adidas since being a professional footballer.
“So the opportunity to expand into the fashion world with Burberry was exciting. When the opportunity came knocking I couldn’t turn the experience down.
“Being injured at the time, it was a good way to use some of my free time.”
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has revealed that Loftus-Cheek will still be out until at least December, revealing that it’s hard to place a timeline on his return.
“It’s a long road, and it’s a difficult one for Ruben,” Lampard explained.
“He’s obviously keen, we all want him back, we know his quality but it’s going to be a while. I feel for him because people ask and the thing to say is I’m really pushing on, it might be next week, it might be next month, I don’t think that’s quite the case.
“We’re all supporting him here, but there’s no immediate news.”
