Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen has claimed the physical presence of Liverpool midfielder Fabinho makes him a better player than Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante and Chelsea legend Claude Makelele.
“(Fabinho’s) got a presence, hasn’t he?” Owen said on BT Sport.
“Listen, there’s some great centre-midfielders in that position.
“The likes of Makelele and Kante in recent times who are small and play in that position.
“But if I was a manager I would love a presence in there.
“I think he’s got a great shape to play that position, half the time you’re blocking the path into that frontman.
“I always remember playing against Vieira and Petit – they only had two in there and every time Stevie Gerrard got the ball or anyone got the ball, I’m trying to find gaps.
“They’re just so big, you just can’t find any gaps.
“I know people will say ‘Yeah, there’s been some great players that are smaller’ but I think if you’ve got a huge frame, a big presence in there, it doesn’t half help.”
