Player ratings: Manchester City 2 vs 1 Chelsea

It was a difficult game between Chelsea and Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, and while the Blues put in a good performance and went ahead through N’Golo Kante, Frank Lampard’s side couldn’t hold on to the lead.

Kepa: Made one excellent save to deny Riyad Mahrez in the second half. Made one poor pass that nearly cost the team. Didn’t look too sharp tonight. 5/10

Azpilicueta: Solid defensively as a right and left-back. Made two stunning blocks in defence, but didn’t add much going forward. 6/10

Tomori: Didn’t look comfortable passing out from the back tonight and looked a bit nervous at times. Was left exposed by Emerson most times. 5/10

Zouma: Very strong defensive performance. Getting better with each game. Covered one timely Tomori error in the second half. 7/10

Emerson: Wasn’t solid defensively and didn’t contribute much to the team’s attack. Should have done better to deny Mahrez from beating him too easily for the second goal. Was taken off for Reece James in the second half. 4/10

Jorginho: Controlled the tempo of the game in the first half and kept finding his teammates with some sumptuous pass. Got overconfident at times and it resulted in a goal conceded. His influence on the game waned afterwards. 7/10

Kovacic: Had a very good game. Drove very well with the ball and again combined well with Jorginho. 7.5/10

Kante: Was by far Chelsea’s best player. Worked hard in the midfield and was always a threat going forward. Scored Chelsea’s only goal of the game. 8/10

Willian: Threatened very well in the first half as he used his pace to continually cause problems for City’s defence. His influence waned in the second half. 7/10

Pulisic: Was brilliant in the opening stages of the game, but got quiet as the game progressed. 5/10

Abraham: His holdup play was very good, but didn’t really have a sniff on goal. 6/10

Reece James: Made his impact felt after replacing Emerson on the hour mark. Put in a strong defensive shift and his crosses were really dangerous. 6/10

Mount: Brought a bit of energy to the Chelsea midfield, but the game seemed beyond Chelsea’s reach at that point. 5/10

Batshuayi: Didn’t have any telling impact on the game. Was caught offside way too often and just fumbled when he got the ball. 4/10

Chelsea is more than just a football club to me; it's a passion I share, and my affinity with the Chelsea badge is one that will last forever. As far as watching my favourite team is concerned, I'd rather miss a meal than miss a Chelsea game.
