Chelsea boss Frank Lampard described the game against Valencia as a game Chelsea mustn’t lose in the build-up to the match and the Blues held on to secure a 2-2 draw at Valencia.

The result leaves Chelsea needing to beat Lille at home next month to qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League.

While some players were not at their best at the Mestalla Stadium, certain other players had a good impact on the game.

According to Sky Sports, Mateo Kovacic and Reece James were our best players at the Mestalla as they both put in tremendous performances. Sky Sports rated Kovacic and James 8/10.

Sky Sports said of Kovacic: “Took his goal – his first for Chelsea on his 71st appearance – superbly, turning on the ball and firing low into the bottom corner from outside the box. Almost had a second shortly afterwards when he put a diagonal effort too close to the goalkeeper. His powerful running caused Valencia problems all night.”

Sky Sports said of James who only started his first Champions League game: “Another performance to enhance a growing reputation. Chelsea’s best attacking outlet in the first half, producing a string of dangerous crosses from the right flank. More of a defensive focus after the break, but it was telling that Valencia’s best moments came down the opposite flank.”
