Two Chelsea players have been named as the Premier League’s most surprising players of the season.
According to Shaka Hislop, Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham are ranked first and second respectively on the list of most surprising players in the Premier League this season.
Mason Mount has started every Premier League game for Chelsea this season, scoring four goals while Abraham has scored 10 Premier League goals for Chelsea this season.
Asked to rank the most surprising players in the Premier League this season, Hislop ranked Abraham as second and Mount as first.
“Listen, coming in, I didn’t think he’d see many minutes,” Hislop told ESPN FC about Abraham.
“I thought Frank Lampard would go with the tried and tested in Olivier Giroud.
“Tammy Abraham came in and hit the ground running. Not just hit the ground running but look at his record so far this season – simply outstanding and I think he has grown as this season has gone on.
“It’s been, not just a surprise, but a joy to witness over the course of the season.”
On Mount, Hislop added: “I know he’s a favourite of Frank Lampard, desperate to have him back at Chelsea and almost seemed to have built his team around him.
“Now, as much as there was a lot of uncertainty around Chelsea and there prospects during the course of the season, this kind of faith in Mason Mount, I didn’t see an awful lot of Derby last season I admit, but it just seemed misplaced to me.
“Yet still, he has exceeded every single expectation.
“Talking about first names on team sheets, and surprises, I think it’s more surprising that Chelsea are where they are than Liverpool are where they are. So Mason Mount gets the nod.”
