Chelsea lost 2-1 to Manchester City on Saturday and the game against the defending champions taught us a lot about Chelsea boss Frank Lampard.

Lampard proved he is a bold manager as Chelsea matched Manchester City, and it’s not often you see Pep Guardiola get tactically out-witted. Neither is it usual to see Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva watching while the opposition pass the ball around them.

The last time Chelsea visited Manchester City and tried to match them, we lost 6-0 with the Blues conceding four goals inside the first 25 minutes.

Chelsea had a plan to attack Manchester City and not just park the bus. The Blues posed problems for Guardiola and even dominated possession at the Etihad, something that has never happened to Guardiola in his managerial career.

Manchester City have better players than Chelsea, so losing 2-1 to the defending champions after causing them problems isn’t a shame.

Manchester City’s experience and investment put them ahead of Chelsea at the moment but Lampard showed with investments in Chelsea’s squad, the Blues can be a force again in the Premier League.

Chelsea fans should be proud of the performance of the players against Manchester City. We were underdogs against Manchester City but we never played like underdogs.
