Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola worked as assistant to former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri last season.

Zola has admitted he and Sarri failed to see the qualities of Fikayo Tomori last season and admits it’s a big lesson for him and Sarri.

“Chelsea have been amazing this season. There have been a few (players) that have been impressing me,” Zola told Soccer AM.

“(Fikayo) Tomori is one of the players. Last year we had him in the pre-season and we couldn’t see all the qualities that he is showing now. That is a surprise and a big lesson for us and me personally as well. They are going beyond my expectations.”

Tomori has been an important player for Chelsea this season, making 14 appearances in all competitions and scoring a screamer against Wolves.
