Chelsea have contacted Bundesliga side RB Leipzig in a bid to discover if Timo Werner has a release clause in his contract, according to The Telegraph via Daily Mail.
The 23 year old German goal machine has been in superb form so far this season, scoring 23 goals in 25 games.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is keen on signing an attacker in January and Werner is on a long list of potential attacking targets that also includes Lyon’s Moussa Dembele, Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha, Leon Bailey of Bayer Leverkusen and Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze.
Reports claim Werner has a release clause between £25million and £51 million and the Blues want clarification on how much it will cost to bring Werner to London.
Chelsea scouts have watched Werner on multiple occasions this season.
