Chelsea legend Didier Drogba was the host of this year’s Ballon d’Or 2019, and the Blues legend used this opportunity to right a wrong he did a decade ago.
Back in 2009, during the heated Champions League semifinal clash between Chelsea and Barcelona, Pep Guardiola’s side defeated Chelsea with a stunning Andres Iniesta goal in the dying minutes of the game, in a game that most Chelsea fans will never forget due to the controversial refereeing of Tom Ovrebo.
Following the end of that game, then 10-year-old Kylian Mbappe met Drogba for a photo which he bluntly refused.
Drogba has used now used the Ballon d’Or platform to repay his debt to Mbappe.
Drogba said: “10 years ago after Chelsea vs Barcelona, a child came to me and wanted to take a picture. That day I said no because of the disgraceful refereeing decisions. I learned that the child was Kylian Mbappe. I want to pay my debt now.”
The sensational photo has got football fans in awe.
