Chelsea have keenly waited for the return of Antonio Rudiger who has missed most part of the season due to injury.

Upon his return to the team, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has paired Rudiger with Kurt Zouma in the centre-back position, but former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has advised Lampard that Zouma and Rudiger combination won’t work well for the team.

Cascarino doesn’t think Zouma and Rudiger are good on the ball and believes that Chelsea youngster Fikayo Tomori is better at passing out from the back.

“If Frank Lampard wants his Chelsea side to play the ball out from the back but still be solid in defence, then he needs to sign a new centre-back,” Cascarino writes in his column for The Times.

“Fikayo Tomori is a promising player but Kurt Zouma and Antonio Rudiger are not good enough on the ball to fit his system.

“Liverpool spent big on Virgil van Dijk, Manchester City signed Aymeric Laporte and Manchester United brought in Harry Maguire. Lampard needs to make a similar signing if Chelsea are to compete.”

Chelsea have been linked with a move for Nathan Ake, and the Blues could trigger the buyback clause of £40m.
