Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has been warned Chelsea’s season could be badly impacted if the transfer embargo isn’t lifted due to the lack of squad depth.
This is according to ESPN pundit Steve Nicol.
Lampard made changes to the squad for the game against West Ham with Olivier Giroud making his first start since August but the changes backfired as Chelsea lost to West Ham.
Chelsea are hoping to have the transfer ban overturned in January to enable the club make signings and Nicol believes if Chelsea are unable to make signings, our season could be severely impacted.
“I think for Chelsea the problems will start if they go deep into the Champions League,” Nicol told ESPN.
“At their best, they’re capable of scoring goals.
“When it gets to the knockout stages, they could win games, which I don’t think they can handle.
“I think we saw today when they’re forced to make changes, they’re not particularly deep.
“Big time [the transfer embargo will impact them].”
