Chelsea didn’t concede a single foul in the 1-0 loss to West Ham on Saturday, the first time we have done that in a league game since such data began to be recorded in 2003/04.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard admitted ahead of the game against West Ham on Wednesday that he isn’t proud of the record because it means the team didn’t play with urgency and aggression against West Ham.
“I think it is a bit of a freak stat,” Lampard said, ahead of Wednesday’s game against Aston Villa, “but one we should not be proud of.
“Not that we want to commit fouls but if you play with urgency and aggression which is what you need to do, hopefully well channelled, but at times you can cause fouls and that is how we should be.
“So I think it runs a little bit alongside the result and something I would not be happy with.”
