Chelsea’s midfield this season has at times shown signs of being one of the best in the Premier League when the Blues went on a winning run of 6 league games. However, the midfield has collapsed in recent games as Frank Lampard can’t find his winning midfield trio anymore.

It hasn’t been that bad as suggested by critics, it just seems that the Chelsea boss might be missing one final piece to make the midfield perfect. Could that final piece be Ruben Loftus-Cheek?

The 23-year-old has not featured for the Blues since he picked up a serious Achilles injury prior to last season’s Europa League final, and at the time, the Chelsea midfielder was in brilliant form.

If Loftus-Cheek can return from a long-term injury and return back to such heights, it’ll indeed be a big boost for Frank Lampard.

And one can only imagine how sleek his combination will be with Mateo Kovacic who has been brilliant this season.

Loftus-Cheek and Kovacic have one thing in common – they both know how to drive with the ball. The duo are comfortable with the ball and can drive through space with relative ease, and their strength on the ball is unbelievable.

Former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri was known for his stubbornness to play the club’s youngsters, but even he couldn’t deny Loftus-Cheek playing time towards the end of last season and showed his frustration when the midfielder got injured just before the Europa League final.

Back in April, Sarri hailed Ruben Loftus-Cheek for blossoming into a “complete” midfielder.

“Now tactically Loftus is a very good midfielder,” said Sarri.

“At the beginning of the season he was a very offensive midfielder. Now he is complete I think. Maybe he’s ready to start most of the games.”

Personally, I see a lot of Yaya Toure in Loftus-Cheek, and if he can stay injury free, he’d go on to become one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.

Who else is anticipating the return of the beast?
