Playing in a right wing-back system against Tottenham, Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta had a knock towards the end of the game and had to be taken off for youngster Reece James.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has now confirmed that his captain has a knock but he’d check on him before Boxing Day’s clash with Southampton to ascertain whether he will be fit to play.
Lampard said in his pre-match press conference: “Azpilicueta had a small issue at the end of the game, hence he came off when he never comes off. We need to check that one this morning.
“Other than that, we’re pretty much where we are, but there were some bumps and bruises so there’s nothing clear. We’ll see.”
Lampard may have to play James on Thursday if need be. The 19-year-old has impressed in the few games he has played this season.
