Chelsea boss Frank Lampard reportedly has a transfer budget of £150 million ahead of the January transfer window.
According to Daily Mail, Lampard must reinforce Chelsea’s vulnerable defence with the £150 million budget.
“Sloppy defending was Chelsea’s downfall in their 3-1 loss to Everton at the weekend. Described as a work in progress under manager Frank Lampard, their defensive vulnerabilities showed it is exactly that,” Daily Mail wrote.
“Lampard’s starting backline consisted of Reece James, Kurt Zouma, Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta, and all four failed to impress their manager with their performances.
“It was Christensen and Zouma’s failure to clear a routine ball that led to the Toffees’ second goal, reinforcing the fact Lampard needs to take the opportunity to splash as much of the £150m available to him in the January window as possible after the club’s transfer ban was lifted by the Court of Arbitration for Sport on Friday.
“Christensen has started over 50 per cent of Chelsea’s Premier League games this season but only has a 44 per cent tackle success rate, while partner Zouma has been guilty of committing two errors that have led to goals as well as scoring an own goal.
“Lampard’s men might be challenging for a place in the top four, but without a defensive readjustment, all hope of Champions League football next season might be lost.”
