Chelsea boss Frank Lampard earned plenty of plaudits after he tactically outclassed Jose Mourinho and masterminded a comprehensive 2-0 win over Tottenham on Sunday.
According to former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino, Mourinho is no longer the special one but the “outdated one”.
“Oh José. You seem to have gone from the special one to the outdated one,” he wrote in his column in the Times.
“Mourinho likes teams filled with big players so he can outmuscle opponents. Yesterday, though, he was completely outmanoeuvred by Frank Lampard.
“The pupil gave his mentor a lesson in the way he set up his Chelsea team to dismantle Tottenham yesterday. He left out Jorginho because he knew this would not be a day for playmakers, up against Eric Dier and Moussa Sissoko.
“Both Spurs men are powerful but lack quality and guile on the ball. Other teams have rolled Chelsea over in recent weeks, but Spurs could not lay a glove on them and they are leaking goals.
“There is a lot of talk about Lampard’s youngsters, but it is the winning mentality at Chelsea that is the true difference between these teams.
“It is embodied by the likes of César Azpilicueta, N’Golo Kanté and Willian, who was immense. Mourinho must instil that in his side if they are to become real contenders but he will have to come up with better tactics.”
