Chelsea’s grip on fourth place has taken a hit as the Blues have now lost four of their last five league matches.
Chelsea suffered a disappointing defeat to struggling Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge this evening, and the results are beginning to put pressure on Frank Lampard.
Chelsea’s fine start to the season is now waning as recent results have gone against the Blues. Teams have known how to play against Chelsea, and Frank Lampard’s side are struggling to get results in games even when they have played well.
Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has now urged Chelsea and Frank Lampard to spend big in the transfer market if the Blues want to make top four this season.
He told Sky Sports: “I think Chelsea will need to go into the market next month. This is a crisis now. If other results go the wrong way for them, their lead [over the top-four] could be down to two points.
“They’ve got Tottenham away next. It’s hard for them now. I think they have to go in the market. This squad, for me, doesn’t get into the top four.”
The race for top four has been blown open especially with Manchester United and Tottenham having found back some form.
