The defensive partnership of Kurt Zouma and Andreas Christensen was again below par as the Chelsea defence conceded three goals in the Premier League clash against Everton at the Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon.
Chelsea’s defence have only kept 4 clean sheets in all competitions this season, and Frank Lampard hasn’t found a way to solve the team’s defensive issues.
Premier League legend Alan Shearer revealed in his analysis for the BBC Sport that our centre-back duo were bullied by Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who scored a brace.
“I was hugely impressed with him [Dominic Calvert-Lewin] because he absolutely battered the two centre-halves, [Kurt] Zouma and [Andreas] Christensen, he didn’t give them a moment’s peace,” England legend Aan Shearer told BBC.
“When you’re a forward, if you can’t win a header, then make sure the defender can’t win it either. He did it all afternoon.
“He uses his body, he uses his strength. The two centre-halves didn’t know what day it was and he did it brilliantly. He’s too strong for Christensen, he deserved that, doing his work rate for his team and winning the ball back.
“They couldn’t handle him, they didn’t want to have a fight with him or a scrap with him.
“Big Dunc [Everton’s interim boss Duncan Ferguson] would have been proud of that because that’s what he did as a player, he bullied centre-halves, and that’s what Calvert-Lewin did today.”
