Chelsea’s defence have absolutely missed the no-nonsense defending of Antonio Rudiger who has been a beast at the back for the Blues.
Chelsea’s defence have struggled this season as we’ve already conceded 24 goals in 15 league games and a whopping 17 goals conceded away from home.
Fikayo Tomori, Andreas Christensen and Kurt Zouma are yet to form an effective partnership at the back, and the Blues are earnestly in need of Rudiger.
However, the Germany International has barely played football this season. The defender, 26, returned from a knee injury against Wolves in September. Rudiger didn’t last long on his return and played just 45 minutes before pulling up with a groin problem.
The big question is whether Rudiger will still be in good form after a long absence from football since the end of last season.
As a precautionary measure, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is believed to be targeting former Chelsea defender Nathan Ake in the January transfer window.
The Blues are free to sign in January after the CAS ruling on Friday, and Ake is strongly being linked to the club.
Chelsea sold Ake to Bournemouth for £20m in 2017, and the Netherlands international has since improved. Now valued at £70m, Chelsea could make a move for the defender in January.
