According to Italian media outlet Calciomercato, Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte is looking to hijack Chelsea’s move for Dries Mertens.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is keen on signing the 32 year old striker before the transfer window closes on Friday but now face a competition from former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte.

According to the report, Conte is preparing a two-year contract worth £7million to bring the Napoli star to Inter Milan on a free transfer this summer.

Inter Milan’s offer might appeal to Mertens as it means he will stay at Napoli until the end of the season before leaving for Inter Milan and this gives him a chance to become Napoli’s all-time leading scorer.

Marek Hamsik is Napoli’s all-time leading scorer and Mertens needs just five goals to break his record and set a new record.

Mertens has scored 118 goals in 300 appearances for Napoli and netted 34 times in the 16/17 campaign after former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri converted him from a winger into a striker.
