Bournemouth defender and Holland international Nathan Ake had been linked with a January move to Chelsea but according to latest reports, the Blues have opted against making a move for the 24 year old.
Chelsea have a £40 million buy-back option on Ake but won’t take up the option with the club instead focusing on other targets during the January transfer window.
Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Darren Bent has revealed he’s surprised at Chelsea’s decision to snub Ake.
“I thought they needed a left-back,” Bent said on Sky Sports News.
“I thought that was the one area straight away they need to strengthen. Obviously Tammy [Abraham]’s been scoring goals, they’ve got [Michy] Batshuayi to back him up and [Olivier] Giroud to back him up.
“They’ve got four centre-halves as we spoke about so I just thought that left-back, he doesn’t seem to trust either one of them, [Marcos] Alonso and Emerson [Palmieri].
“He doesn’t really seem to trust them two so I thought left-back would have been a priority. But obviously he’d been looking at Nathan Ake who’s been playing left-back for Bournemouth, played there at the weekend as well.
“So I thought he would have been a sure thing.”
