Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has long been linked with an exit from the club, with Inter Milan and Lazio keen on the France international.
For Chelsea, the Blues are yet to make any signings this transfer window, and a move for Napoli star Dries Mertens seems to be the last throw of the dice for Frank Lampard. Chelsea however won’t let Giroud leave the club without any replacement, thus the 32-year-old might just remain at the club.
On transfer deadline day, Lampard has now revealed that the Blues might not make any signings and also admitted that Giroud might remain at the club.
Asked about the potential arrival of Mertens, Lampard simply said, “No.”
On Giroud, Lampard made it clear that he won’t be leaving: “Olivier Giroud in this window has been incredible as a professional and as a man.
“We all know that there’s been interest and I’ve sat in every press conference and said it had to be right for Olivier, for myself and for the club. He’s been impeccable in that period and I’ve got huge respect for him for that and as a player. Will he leave? No.
“It’s my job with all the players to try and get the best out of them, with the way I want us to play and the things I need to see out of each position. Each player has to buy into what we’re trying to do because that’s important. It’s key across the board, not just with Oli.”
